Perched on a cliff along the famous Hermanus Cliff Path, this luxurious home offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding fynbos-draped hills. The Hemingway House comfortably accommodates up to 15 guests in five king en-suite rooms and one bunk room. Including a private pool, jacuzzi (hot tub), three kitchens, two bars, and several indoor and outdoor dining areas, it is the perfect place for large groups. It is professionally styled with luxury amenities.

Clad with local natural stone, this enchanting home was built directly on the famous Hermanus Cliff Path, which was honoured as a UNESCO World Heritage site because of its biodiversity. The home exemplifies ocean-side tranquillity, skirted with frilly fynbos and wildflowers and cooled by sea breezes where you can watch the changing tides and whales while lounging in bed. It is charmingly built to maximise your experience, whether you enjoy a gourmet cappuccino in the casual pyjama lounge with uninterrupted views of the ocean or lounge by the pool hidden in a beautiful Tuscan courtyard and shielded from the wind. An imposing outdoor stone fireplace invites long meals, lingering evening conversations, and a game of cards.

The enchanting interior is cool in the summer with its clay-tiled floors, and in the winter, the home is deeply cosy with fires crackling in its eight fireplaces. Natural materials have been used throughout the home, bringing the natural world harmoniously into the living space with hand-crafted furniture and décor sourced from artisans throughout Africa.

Whether you are preparing a meal from locally caught fish or have just awoken in one of the several ocean-facing rooms, your view of breathtaking Walker Bay is unencumbered. Step out onto your private bedroom balcony to take in the salty ocean air or linger in the bathtub with complimentary bath salts, reading a book plucked from one of the many bookshelves throughout the house. The setting is quite literally jaw-dropping, with a backdrop of imposing mountains and a trail dotted with little bays and beaches. This will be a holiday to remember.

The home has every creature comfort, including six gorgeous bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, three kitchens, two bars, and a wine cellar. There is ample room to snack on a boerewors roll and swirl an Old Fashioned, or take your time cooking a meal to remember, followed by a nightcap in the cosy wine cellar with the fire burning. During the day, take advantage of the retractable glass doors running the length of the home, opening onto a wide veranda and pool courtyard.

You will relive the day in your mind, from your gourmet morning coffee on the patio—watching the mist burn off Walker Bay with the pink sunrise—to hearing the chorus of birds come to life in the proteas surrounding the property, picnicking on a hidden sandy beach, or strolling through the nearby galleries and wineries and ending the day in the jacuzzi with a glass of bubbly and stargazing. This contemporary yet comfy and capacious home will restore you.

This destination also makes a perfect work retreat, with a solar inverter system and high-speed internet ensuring you have connectivity when you need it.

You will have access to the entire home, including every fireplace, ocean-facing view, veranda, and hidden reading nook.

Violet and Nosipho will be on-site to assist you with keys and remote controls and show you around the home. They will also be available on weekdays to make beds and do a light clean of the kitchen. Weekend service is available at an additional charge.

The villa is a six-to-seven-minute drive (or a 30-to-40-minute walk) from downtown Hermanus and Blue Flag beaches. You can walk along the cliff path that runs directly in front of the house or cycle along the road. The villa is located directly on the spectacular Walker Bay, which is widely known as the best land-based whale-watching destination in the world. This seaside resort is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts; enjoy cycling to neighbouring towns such as Stanford, kite surfing in Onrus, visiting penguins in Betty's Bay, shark diving in Gansbaai, and wine tasting in the surrounding seven wine regions within one and a half hours' drive of Hermanus, including Hemel-en-Aarde just 20 minutes away. The town boasts some of the best seafood in the country, with unique eateries such as Dutchies and Bientang's Cave, as well as galleries and shops.

Walk along the world-famous Cliff Path that runs in front of the house to get to restaurants and the beaches, or cycle or drive. Uber is not available in Hermanus, but there are airport shuttles and a local taxi service available.

Your stay includes daily weekday house service from Violet and Nosipho, who will make up your beds and do a quick clean of the kitchens. We want to protect your privacy, so Violet and Nosipho will be in and out as quickly as possible. If you would prefer not to have weekday service, please let us know.
