Villa Boulders

Located in the beautiful and historical southern peninsula suburb of Simon's Town, about 40 km from central Cape Town, this may be one of the most charming beach houses around (a fact to which its perfect score will attest). Cool in summer and cosy in winter, it is an idyllic stay all year.

Offering unbelievable views (bring binoculars for whale and bird watching) and a secret beach a short walk from the house, it is private and quiet, yet easily accessible. Restaurants, antique shops, a great yacht club, hiking trails, SCUBA diving, and swimming beaches are all very close by.

This creative and charming villa has been beautifully decorated by a top designer, and all paintings are by the former resident artist. With ultra-fast Wi-Fi, a shaded veranda, a pool, and high-end kitchen equipment, it is ideal for both low-key relaxation and stylish hosting. The large patio is sheltered from the wind and can seat 16 for long, sun-drenched lunches.

Peaceful, picturesque, and ultra-safe, the property is located next to a naval base with armed guards at the entry point across the road. It is the ultimate space to escape, but is also equally suitable for corporate strategy retreats, team building, and photo shoots.

The main house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and the adjoining cottage offers the same, making it very versatile for groups.

The large award-winning garden was planted by Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens' landscapers 30 years ago. A couple of African penguins live here, making it one of the only houses in Africa that can boast such residents. One of the house’s best attributes is Lottings, the superb house manager, who is always on hand to help.

Villa Boulders is located in Simon’s Town, a historic and increasingly trendy area featuring lovely restaurants, antique shops, and a great yacht club. Cape Point, endless hiking trails, SCUBA diving spots, and swimming beaches are all nearby. Guests can rent kayaks and SUPs to enjoy the clear water and its rich marine life, or simply relax while enjoying the wonderful view and the many birds in the garden. The large, wind-sheltered patio is the perfect venue for hosting long, sun-drenched lunches.

While a car is useful, the house is serviced by main bus routes and is a 20-minute walk from the train station. The train journey (half of which runs along the coast) takes one hour to reach the centre of Cape Town.

• The house is serviced by full-time staff.
• Named Villa Boulders, the house could just as well be called Penguin Song. Note that the birds are vocal, and you might hear them at night and in the morning if they are in the garden.
• There are two bicycles available for use, as well as an inflatable boat, snorkelling gear, and beach equipment.
